Toss & Tile

Toss & Tile

Lay out a seamless pattern template, then draw over it in Procreate. Every circle tells you which drawing goes where.

Nothing lands on a corner or the middle of a side, so the template works with every seamless method.

Your repeat

Drag any circle to move it. The rest make room. In the set styles, a whole family moves together so the repeat stays even.

Using the template in Procreate
  1. Make a square canvas the same size as the PNG, for example 3600 by 3600 px.
  2. Actions, Add, Insert a file (or Insert a photo) and pick the PNG. It lands on its own layer.
  3. Lower that layer's opacity and add a new layer on top to draw on.
  4. Draw drawing A in every circle marked A, B in every B, and so on. A circle cut by an edge continues on the opposite edge, so draw each part where it shows.
  5. Prefer the offset method? Draw only the whole circles, then move your drawing layer by half the canvas each way. Every cut circle becomes whole in the middle, ready to finish.
  6. A backwards letter means draw that one mirrored. Leaf shapes on Trailing point the way the leaf grows.
  7. Hide the template layer before you export the tile.

AI Content Disclosure:

These tools are "vibe coded", which means I built them with AI by describing what I needed and testing the results until they worked. I don’t have the coding experience to build small utilities like these myself, or the budget to hire a developer, so AI is what made them possible.

I made most of them for my own work, and since they cost me very little beyond some time, it wouldn’t feel fair to charge much for them. That’s why they’re free for anyone to use. Tips help cover the cost of hosting this site and give me room to keep making useful little things now and then.

You can read more about how I use AI in my work in my AI policy.
